Which display cable should I use

I have built my first gaming pc and now i need to choose a display cable. I have a monitor that only supports dvi and vga. I want to know if hdmi is better than dvi. I don't mind the refresh rates as long as they are 60+ but I want to know which one gives out the best resolution and which one will make my pc more future-proof and which one won't. Also please tell me if I should upgrade my monitor if it is a bottleneck for my gpu.
gpu: msi geforce gtx 1050 gaming x 2gb
cpu: intel pentium g4560
ram: 4gb
monitor: (some random dell monitor) 60Hz-75Hz.

If, that is tthe case, then use DVI (assuming is Dual-Link DVI). A 1080p monitor could never be the limitation in a system like yours. I recommend getting another 4gb of RAM if possible. Don't forget to change windows dsiplay settings to make sure the monitor is running at 75Hz.
