So i am currently in the process of rebuildig a pc and replacing old parts. I have a gtx 750 ti, intel Q6600 core 2 quad cpu and 3gb ram.

I understand that the cpu and memory are far from sufficient and am getting round to replacing them when i have the money.
I play some games on this rig but obviously have to have settings quite low and not get good frames.

I was just wandering out of curiosity once i replace the memory and cpu (most likely ddr3) would i see a particularly big jump in performance?

Your gpu is still allright but the core platform is way too old and obsolete now to give you any kind of performance in recent games. My suggestion would be to save some serious money and jump to a more recent platform like Kabylake or Ryzen.
