I want to build a new PC based on Ryzen 1800X CPU. It will be used for number crunching (long-running multi-threaded simulations using many gigabytes of memory and dumping lots of data to disk), software development, photo editing (RAW file development mostly) and gaming, including VR (I'm thinking about Occulus Rift). The budget is up to £5,000 but would prefer to stay closer to £3,500 (including monitor).

I know I will need:
- 64GB RAM (I would prefer more, optimally)
- 512GB SSD (I want to dual boot Windows 10 and Linux)
- many USB ports for VR headset

What can you recommend?

I can only recommend my Asus Prime x370 Pro. It's rich in ports and features but (and that goes for most MBs for Ryzen nowadays) is BIOS that's still in development stage. Last one (0803) is pretty good if you don't want to OC much and leave everything at stock. You gonna need a good cooler to go with it, "X" processors don't come with one or at least not good enough.
