Confused about monitor sizes. Dimensions vs inches?

I'm looking to buy a new monitor which needs to be around 55cm in width. When looking at monitor specifications, there are two measurements provided; in inches and actual dimensions.

Using this monitor as an example: http://www.benq.us/product/monitor/EW2440L/specifications/
It's 24" (~60cm) but when you check dimensions it says the width is 545.66mm (55cm).

Common sense dictates I should be looking at the HxWxD dimensions, but I always thought the size in inches was the width.

So my question is, if I need a specific size monitor, should I only pay attention to the dimensions?

Solution
The dimensions are the length, width, height of the TV or monitor casing. The screen size, usually in inches, the diagonal length of JUST the screen - not the bezels(plastic/metal portion on edges).
