activating windows 10 after a hardware change

Ok so following this link this one I linked my Ms account to the my windows. Now i have just installed my new mobo, ram cpu, same drives but MS is not letting me activate it .

These devices were registered with a version of Windows 10 that does not support this feature.

What is windows 10 core ? I installed the home edition which I thought was the right one...

Is/was your old device a normal desktop PC? Was it an upgrade from 7 or 8?

I can find this on core: https://developer.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/iot/explore/iotcore but that isn't for a normal PC

Did your copy of Windows come from an OEM like Dell, HP, etc? These cannot be transferred and are different to the OEM licence you as an individual can buy that does allow you to transfer.

no what I had was windows 7 retail then I got the free windows 10 upgrade

Then best to call Microsoft, there should be no problem with this. They are usually good as sorting this type of issue.

As long as it was purchased from a reputable supplier and not one of these cheap websites
