New Windows Installation to SSD - NEED HELP!

So I just got a 250gb SSD to use as my boot drive and I want to keep my HDD as secondary drive. Can I detached the HDD, install Windows to the SSD, then reattach the HDD and remove Windows from it? What is the best way to go about this? I don't want to lose my stuff, but I also don't want this all to be too complicated.

that is the recommended way actually. leave the HDD disconnected during the windows install to the SSD to make sure the windows install doesn't try to write to it

In fact, you don't need to reinstall Windows, you can migrate the existing Windows installation to SSD by using free system clone software such as WinToHDD.

depending on how old the windows install is it better to do a clean install especially since its windows 10. the only way i would recommend cloning or imaging the drive would be it was going to be windows 7 or 8 due to the massive amounts of updating you would have to do
