Can't Place Icons on Bottom Row

Within the last couple months I have been unable to place my desktop icons in the bottom row. This only occurs when I try to place them under other icons (like under a column) and it kicks it out to the next open column. However, if I right click on the desktop and select then deselect "Auto-Arrange Icons" I can place them in the bottom row until I restart my computer.

I'm thinking it has something to do with a Windows Update, because I made no display changes since this began happening.

Thanks :)

Hi, I still occasionally see people show up in here with the same issue, so know that you are not alone.

I don't know if Microsoft is working on fixing this or not. It's likely low on their priority list. It's annoying... but isn't causing crashes. Hopefully they do fix it.

I did read in a few places that i only affects certain screen resolutions. Give this a try (3 screenshots)...

Hi, this is a common problem with the Creators Update. This doesn't seem to affect everyone and there is no real "fix", only work arounds. I have read in a few places that it has to do with certain screen resolutions.

You can try changing the icon size (slightly) by following these steps:

    Click on the desktop
    Hold down Ctrl key
Roll middle mouse button up/down to change icon size.

You can also try changing the icon vertical spacing by editing the registry. Note, [make a full registry backup] before trying. https://superuser.com/questions/1198590/hot-do-i-fix-windows-10-creators-update-desktop-icon-positioning

You can try unchecking Auto align and Auto arrange icons on the desktop context View menu (right click).

Another user having the same problem:

I hope some of this info helps.

Thanks for the reply, and sorry for my slow response! :)
Since this is a windows Creators Update issue, I'm assuming it will most likely be fixed in some upcoming patch? So, hopefully by waiting, it will fix itself?

Thanks for the other suggestions too. I will try a few of those.

If you read more of that, you will see that it only affects some people. All I can do is recommend that you keep your Windows updated and maybe one day it will be fixed.

it happened before creators update, i helped someone last week with same thing (can't recall if I fixed it or not) and found evidence it was happening last year as well. He could get them onto bottom row but some spots seemed to be dead spots where he couldn't put anything.

Try a clean boot and see if its still the same, if it lets you then the problem has to be one of your start up programs - https://support.microsoft.com/en-au/help/929135/how-to-perform-a-clean-boot-in-windows

are you running any windows tweaking programs as I seem to recall his problem was an option in one of them.
