Sending a GPU from Canada to Italy

Hello! I found a great deal of a Hybrid GTX 1080. I got some relatives in Canada that agreed to send the GPU to Italy, but I am worried about the taxes and stuff. Can they be avoided by sending the GPU as a gift or something? If anyone had experiences like this please share the information with me, I'll greatly appreciate it!

"Import duties and taxes are levied by the Italian government on goods that are brought in from outside the EU. The amount payable is calculated on the CIF (value of the goods + insurance + freight)." Calling the goods a "gift" is only a means to smuggling, and may up the price if discovered.
