No display on monitor after buying new GPU

My previous graphics was from my AMD A6-6400k(onboard) and my monitor uses a VGA cable. I recently bought a GPU(GTX 1050) and a VGA to DVI adapter so I can connect my monitor to the graphics card but after connecting it my monitor shows no signal. I removed the gpu and connected the monitor to the DVI port on my mobo and still the same, it only works if I remove the card and connect to the VGA port on my mobo which is my old build. I'm not an expert in solving PC problems so I hope someone can help me. Thanks in advance.
