Hey im going to get a new monitor for my birthday, i was wondering on which should i go for. The LG 25UM58-P (Ultrawide 1080P) or the LG 24UD58-B (16:9 4K). Both have 99% sRGB color spectrum and the 4k panel panel support 72% ntsc. 8 bit color on the ultrawide and 10 bit on the 4k. The 4k panel also supports AMD Freesync technology.

For pricing, the 4k panel cost about $100 more than the UW. im not planning to use this for gaming so gaming feedback wouldnt really be needed.

Thanks!

One thing to keep in mind would be the screen dimensions. A 25" ultra-wide will be relatively short, at about 9.7 inches tall by 23 inches wide (about 24.7 x 58.5 cm). That's about the same height as a 20 inch 16:9 monitor. The 23.8" 4K screen will be about 11.7 by 20.7 inches (29.6 x 52.7 cm) by comparison, making it 2 inches taller, though a little over 2 inches narrower. In terms of total screen area, the 4K monitor is around 8% larger, despite it having a smaller diagonal measurement, due to its less-extreme aspect ratio.

And of course, the 4K screen will have significantly higher resolution. It has exactly 3 times the pixels of that ultrawide, though you'll almost certainly want to use scaling with it in Windows to make...

And of course, the 4K screen will have significantly higher resolution. It has exactly 3 times the pixels of that ultrawide, though you'll almost certainly want to use scaling with it in Windows to make things larger, since otherwise things would appear tiny on a 23.8" 4K screen. At 200% scaling, things would appear the same size as on a 1080p screen, though things like text (and images, depending on the application) would appear sharper. On the ultra-wide, scaling shouldn't be necessary, since the screen has significantly lower resolution, resulting in things appearing "normal" size without it. Certain programs might also run slower on the 4K screen, since they may have to draw 3 times as many pixels to the display.

Which would be better for you will depend on what you use it for. The 4K screen might be better if you are regularly working in graphics software like Photoshop, or reading lots of text, or viewing 4K video. The ultra-wide might be better for using multiple programs side by side, or viewing anamorphic widescreen films.

There are other monitor options in this price range too, such as 1440p screens, though I don't know of any from LG, if you are specifically looking for that brand. LG does also have a 29 inch ultra-wide though, which has the same resolution as the one you listed, but about a 35% larger screen in terms of total area...
