Crash on program shutdown

So today I was shutting down a simulator when I my pc crashed, Giving the error message "dpc watchdog violation" What is this? And can a crash cause corrupt files in terms of the simulator. My business depends on this sim and I need to know if I should reinstall or not. Bering in mind a reinstall means loosing a days worth or clients.
