I am currently using a crappy acer 1920x1080p@60Hz monitor for gaming and doing some schoolwork/internet browsing. Mainly gaming though xD. I play a mixture of shooter games (overwatch, csgo, arma, playerunknowns battlegrounds) and open world (witcher 3, skryim). I was wondering whether to get a 2560x1080 ultrawide monitor or a 2560x1440 monitor. I also want to know how these games will look and run on these kinds of monitors with my gtx 1060-3gb. I am on a very tight budget (I'm only 15) so i will link below the monitors i am looking at specifically. Any advice would be great.

2560x1080:

2560x1440:

Solution
A GTX 1060 should probably be adequate for 2560x1440. Perhaps not at ultra or high detail on all games, but the better optimized ones should be fine. The difference between this resolution and 1080 P was quite noticeable to me when I used to have a 2560x1440 monitor and a GTX 970 (I generally ran without AA).

You'll get more FPS obviously out of the 2560 x1080 monitor / card combo. How much more and is it worth it is up to you.

Witcher 3: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9MTc6o2oiWI

IPS really recommended. Better color rendition and viewing angles.

I'm not too bothered about refresh rate, its more pixels that im after honestly so my games look nicer

Decide also on IPS vs TN. I see one of the panels you are looking at is 1ms. That one though not listed should def be TN. 21:9 is gaining more traction for modern games, but many older games may not support that aspect ratio. 16:9 obviously more supported.

Thanks for the great answer. If there is that much difference with 1440, ill probably go for that. A couple of the games im playing arent properly optimised for 21:9 ratio i dont think anyway. Thanks for the youtube links, from looking at that i should be okay to run the witcher on mid settings which im cool with. The displays im looking at are ips, so if thats generally considered better then thats good i guess
