Hi all,

I built my PC a few months ago and I'm having no issues except that I'm having trouble getting my Samsung mobile device (Galaxy S7 Edge and Galaxy Tab S3) to show up under "devices and drives" in file explorer so that I can transfer media between my PC and the mobile devices. I believe I've downloaded and installed all of the appropriate drivers, including the latest USB drivers from Samsung. I've downloaded and installed the MTP Kit as well as the Media Feature Pack for Windows 10 N. My registry was missing the [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{eec5ad98-8080-425f-922a-dabf3de3f69a}] path so I copied the following into a notepad file and saved it as wdp.reg in My Documents and then imported the file into the registry

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{eec5ad98-8080-425f-922a-dabf3de3f69a}]
"Class"="WPD"
"ClassDesc"="@%SystemRoot%\\System32\\wpd_ci.dll,-101"
"Icon"="-100"
"IconPath"=hex(7):25,00,73,00,79,00,73,00,74,00,65,00,6d,00,72,00,6f,00,6f,00,\
74,00,25,00,5c,00,73,00,79,00,73,00,74,00,65,00,6d,00,33,00,32,00,5c,00,77,\
00,70,00,64,00,5f,00,63,00,69,00,2e,00,64,00,6c,00,6c,00,2c,00,2d,00,31,00,\
30,00,30,00,00,00,00,00
"UpperFilters"=hex(7):57,00,70,00,64,00,55,00,70,00,46,00,6c,00,74,00,72,00,00,\
00,00,00
"Installer32"="wpd_ci.dll,WpdClassInstaller"

I did the above because it was proposed a solution by user auggy here

I then restarted the PC but still no luck. I think it might be worth noting that the Installer32 registry key in the path listed above disappears after a restart. I've tried reinstalling the appropriate Samsung USB drivers several times with no luck. I even tried to reinstall with Driver Signature Enforcement disabled in Win10 but that didn't do anything. In Device Manager, each device shows up under "Other Devices" as "Unknown Device." When I right-click on "Unknown device" -> "Update drivers" -> "search automatically for updated driver software" , I get the following message
"Windows encountered a problem installing the drivers for your device

Windows found drivers for your device but encountered an error while attempting to install them.
'SAMSUNG Mobile MTP Device'
An error occurred during the installation of this device:
The driver installation file for this device is missing a necessary entry. Contact your hardware vendor.
If you know the manufacturer of your device, you can visit their website and check the support section for drivers."

What entry am I missing? When I right click on "Unkown device" -> "Properties", I'm presented with the following message in the text box

"The drivers for this device are not installed. (Code 28)
The installation failed because a function driver was not specified for this device instance.
To find a driver for this device, click Update Driver."

Please help! I don't know what to do at this point. Before it is even asked, YES I have selected the "File Transfer" option on both Samsung devices and unlocked the screen. What's the next step here?

That thread is still active on technet, last post was only 3 days ago so it may have more steps still. I would contemplate joining technet (if you can) and ask in that thread as otherwise Samsung or Microsoft would be best places to start

You could also ask on https://www.tenforums.com/software-apps/ as there are pretty clever people there as well.
