(Am Pc scrub no judge pls)Have somewhat old Monitor it only has VGA and Dvi-D dual link Comp has HDMI ports. So went out bought a dvi to hdmi cable get home realize its dvi-d single link cable. so my question is do i lose out on anything by using single link over dual link (DVI-D) like idk resolution? Or am I fine with keeping it? Reason i ask is my shitty old screen i used before gave more options for resolution scaling than this current somewhat old monitor?

Solution
If the old monitor is 1920x1080p or lower it's no issue. HDMI is only equivalent to single-link so many 2560 monitors until very recently couldn't show native resolution over HDMI or VGA and required Displayport or dual-link DVI.

For best picture quality it's best to avoid scaling if possible on any fixed-pixel display but some good implementations can be used as a sort of blur-type antialiasing.
