G4560 / Windows 10 or i3-7100 / Windows 8

Hi All,

I'm building a budget gaming PC. I was set on going with the G4560 for my CPU until I read that Kaby Lake isn't compatible with Windows 8. I already own a Windows 8 license, but not Windows 10. Any savings from the G4560 would be offset by having to purchase Windows 10.

Which combo would you recommend - G4560 / Windows 10 or i3-7100 / Windows 8?

you can install windows 10 and use the win 8 license, it probably will work

if not, buy a 10 key or use it without license, a watermark telling you to buy a license will annoy you until you get a license

No point getting an i3, the G4560 is an ever so slightly lower clocked version of the i3 7100 for half the price.

Thanks for your comment. From what I've read, this method would require Windows 8 to already be on the machine. Is that correct?

I don't think I can get Windows 8 on a Kaby Lake CPU.

I have tied my digital license to my Microsoft account. How do I now de-authorize my old computer so I can transfer the license to the one I'm building?

install it on the new computer, log in with your microsoft account during the initial setup when it asks, and then just go to https://account.microsoft.com/devices (have to log in to their website first as well)
