Will i lose fps when going from 5:4 to 16:9?

hello, i have currently 550 ti gpu and using 5:4 monitor, perfomance in games is fine but how much fps i would lose in games with 1080p monitor?

Assuming 1280x1024 ??

If youre going to 1920x1080 then roughly 33% difference.

You can however play games at 1280x720 (720p) or 1366x768 on a 1080p screen should you wish.
In which case you'll actually gain performance gpu wise.

Madmatt is right though you can play at a lower resolution if you need to make up the difference until you get a better GPU.

and if i get 40fps on 1280x1024 how much would i get on 1920x1080?

Yes you would get a slight frame increase going to 720P

If you went 1080P this is what you get, roughly 27 FPS.

40 X 33% or 40 x .33= 13.2 frames lost going to 1080P
40- 13.2= 26.8 FPS you could expect approx. at 1080P
