So, Im not great at customising computers and still trying to learn but struggling to understand.

Im looking to upgrade my graphics card as my computer lags on even the most basic of games, it even lags when trying to open the start screen. My current graphics card is the Sapphire Radeon R9 270X (link below).

I'm not confident enough to buy another graphics card because im somewhat worried that I might waste my money and destroy my PC at the same time. I'm not looking for a high end card, the most im willing to spend is around £200 at a stretch.

My PC Build (the majority of these things are discontinued):
Graphics Card:

I have a DVD port and a 1TB hard drive (Seagate Barracuda) if that helps.
(Windows 8.1)

Thank you in advance for your help.

In regards to the question, are you specifically wanting to buy a new AMD Radeon Graphics Card? Or are you open to Nvidia? Because after browsing Aria PC and local U.K stores, there are very few good Radeon cards in your price range floating about (RX 470, RX 570, etc) due to the recent mining craze.

Thank you so much for the quick responce!

I don't mind switching to Nvidia if it is easier, as long as my PC doesnt explode and it doesnt involve anything toooooo technical (I understand basics of PCs but thats it). I'm just looking for any solution that can fix lag on my computer in general and I have decided to try upgrading my PC as I built it around 2013.

If there is an affordable upgrade in the Radeon sub-brand (I think it is a sub-brand) then I would be more confident switching to that as it shares the same name, silly I know.

Reading your comments again your issue is not GPU based.

You've got a good motherboard & for its age the 6300 is still a good CPU .

Should certainly not be 'lagging' under general use.

Stinks of driver or software errors or maybe a hard drive issue.
