I bought my PC in 2012.

GTX 560 ti *(upgraded later on to GTX 960 4 GB, in 2016)*
8 ram - 4x4
i5 2400 3.10
P67X-UD3-B3 - Motherboard
600 wats PSU, I don't remember what's the brand.
Zalman Z9 - Case.

I've used this PC for gaming, I play CSGO, Rust (Low settings - I can run it on higher but it's pointless) Arma 3, Arma 2, DayZ.

I was thinking to upgrade to 16 ram, i7 2600k - But the thing is, I don't know if it's even worth it to upgrade this rig.

If you are going to suggest to get another PC, please list the hardware if possible. (I can spend $1000-$1500)

Very weak performance. Comparable to a AMD fx cpu. And moreover, the price of that 2nd gen i7 is abt 250 I take it?
If you want a future proof platform, then get a ryzen 1700 with stock cooler and a b350 Strix mobo instead of the 7700k/cooler/z270 mobo I suggested above.

My PC is working fine, I mainly play Rust and CSGO.
I find it kinda stupid to buy such a rig for these games, it's a really good PC the one you suggested but there's no use for it for me.

If the PC is working fine, why are you looking to upgrade? The CPU and video card are fine for games, although you won't be playing the latest games on high settings with very good FPS. Run it till you don't like how it performs.

A better CPU than yours for the same system is in the $140 range on ebay, not really worth it. Nor is going to 16 GB of RAM for most tasks. Is your memory usage hitting 100%? A CPU upgrade won't help you too much in most games or in most tasks unless you encode video often.

Because I sometimes get lag spikes when shooting in Rust, and it takes a little bit of time to load player built structures.

"although you won't be playing the latest games on high settings"
As I mentioned, I play Rust and CSGO - there's no use for that new rig that "Lucky_SLS" suggested, as I won't play any other game at this point.

Your system is at the recommended requirements for Rust, outside of the video card being a notch or two under. If you want to spend the money on a faster CPU, try it and see. I think you would be better off spending $350-400 on a full new setup while re-using your case, power supply and video card instead of spending $140 or so to upgrade an old platform.

If you don't have a solid state drive for the computer that could be a good upgrade. Get a newer i5 CPU, new RAM, new motherboard, rest you can re-use assuming you have a good quality power supply. You can sell your old parts for about $100 in a bundle most likely, maybe $80. Then if the system still runs things slowly you can upgrade the video card if needed.

The Intel Core i5-7500 is on sale for $180 at Newegg now https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819117730&cm_re=Core_i5-_-19-117-730-_-Product Another $100 on a decent non-fancy motherboard, this one looks nice and has 4 RAM slots https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813144001&cm_re=H270M_MORTAR_ARCTIC-_-13-144-001-_-Product and RAM, https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?item=N82E16820104757 white to match motherboard, you are done.

You have the fun of building a new computer, more or less, for under $400, with another $600 free for later if you feel the improvement is not good and you want to also upgrade the video card.

Basically, you are suggesting to swap out the current ram, motherboard, CPU.
I think the ram is fine, I will just get a newer motherboard & CPU.
Can you tell me what do you think about the I7-2600k? - I already have an aftermarket EVO cooler for it.
And I would like to know if I can overclock i7 2600k with my current motherboard.

nope, u cant overclock with ur mobo. it requires a z series mobo. u can have it just for the increased clockspeed and hyperthreading. and as u can see, we r all in the same boat of not spending money on an old outdated platform.
if u want to spend less, get a ryzen 1300X on a decent b350 like the asrock pro4 and pair it with a 2x4gb of 2800/3000 rams.
when u have enough cash, upgrade that gpu and later upgrade that cpu to a ryzen 1700/1700X maybe?

I have the money, not going to spend it on a perfectly working PC.
I do lag sometimes, I bet it's the CPU, you guys keep twisting every question I ask instead of helping me out.

Alright.
Last question, I already asked but I want to be sure.
If I get the i7 2600k I won't be able to overclock it on this current motherboard?

The RAM is not fine since it's DDR3. The new systems use DDR4. If you want to get the i7, it will be faster than your i5. Is it worth spending almost half of the cost of a full new system on? I don't think so.
