This will be my first build, I have done research and feel confident I can build something as long as I take my time doing so. I have been to multiple compatibility websites and nothing shows for the Xeon E3-1275 V6. I would kindly ask if anyone could help me source the rest of the components to go along with the Xeon E3-1275 V6. Though it seems like a server build, I am going to use this as my personal PC so no BMC/IPMI features.

Motherboard - Supermicro X11SAE ( I think this would be the right one as I have researched for hours filtering through Supermicro's website ).. Is there any other Motherboard that would work?

Memory - I need ECC, but it appears I would need to go to DDR4 2400 as opposed to DDR4 2133, which the Supermicro only recommends 2133, what do I do since the CPU suggests 2400?

Graphics Card - I have no clue, I need something that will support multiple monitors as well as being overkill. From what I read the " server " graphics card is the way to go and I do not mind spend an extra couple dollars.

Storage - I would like to run multiple SSD as I do not need a lot a lot of storage

This is my first build, any input would be much appreciated lol.. I am sure you can remember your first build so do not hesitate to throw me any suggestions, I appreciate your time!

Before we get into any kind of recommendation, are you building a server or are you building a high end gaming computer? I ask because a server build wouldn't be as appropriate for gaming as you might think. Yea, it has lots of power and what not, but with that power comes different programming for how to handle various situations. It's why you don't see Quadro or AMD FirePro video cards in gaming systems (those are CAD/Engineering video cards).

Max memory is 64GB DDR4-2400 dual channel
Both the CPU and MB support integrated graphics along with the capability for 1 PCIe 3.0 x16 graphics card, so add a 1080ti or something like that
MB has 8 sata ports so plenty of room for SSD's

Are you building a gaming pc or what? Whats your max budget. If you are building a gaming pc the xeon will be far worse than a normal i7.

Xeons look beastly, but you have to evaluate how they achieve that. There's a lot of server-specialized optimizations that are applied, such as having tons of cores which most games will not make any use of whatsoever. Linus from Linustechtips actually covered this in some detail. The memory optimizations are another thing unique to server memory, but you have to understand that in terms of design and purpose, a server is VERY different from a gaming PC.

There isn't much overlap and you will get a very bad gaming computer out of a beastly server and vice versa.

Oh wow my apologies I posted this in my opening post - " Though it seems like a server build, I am going to use this as my personal PC so no BMC/IPMI features. ".

You guys are awesome thank you very much for the quick response and my mistake for not making myself more clear. There is no budget and I will be running simulation software ( mathematical formulas ). Gaming is a plus and by overkill I meant as in overkill for my particular needs. If you really want a budget I would say 7k? This will be my personal PC.

I will build a i7 if needed it is no problem, I had just thought as I was researching for must be 20 hours by now that the server was the way to go if you were willing to spend the money. I should build an i7?

I like the i7 X series that came out a couple months ago, particularly the 8 core 16 thread. Is that a better option?

The CPU and Mobo will be out in month and a half.

The GPUs will be out in probably 5-6months(max). Till the GPUs release get a used GTX1080. Spending on present GPU lineup with that kind of budget is bit meaningless as new lineup will be out in few months.

After getting that build in a year add custom water cooling to get extra performance out of it.

This setup can handle all kinds of workload let it be CPU intensive or GPU intensive with no problem at all.

Thanks brotha! I could not find the 18 core and now I know why. Ok does the motherboard have the new Intel Optane slot?

Also on the Crucial MX300 storage is that U.2 connection? I was looking at the U.2 Intel 750 Series 2.5" or Crucial you like better. Also I am confused between the M.2 SSD and the U.2 SSD, would I not just be able to add the U.2 adapter to the M.2 motherboard connection and have two 2.5" U.2 intel 750 series SSD's?

I know that there is a intel 750 series NVME series for a PCI slot without the U.2 motherboard connection, but since I will have added M.2 connections I thought I would ask

Thanks again

Can I just add the custom water cooling kit now? I only said 7k because I had thought that would cover everything, but apparently I had forgotten the fact that I am speaking to people who probably have 15k+ rigs lol..

I am going to order the available parts right now, that case you recommended is real real nice, my favorite by far! Can I pay for the CPU, Motherboard and Graphics Cards now and be the first to get them or is it a frenzy on release date?

You will have to wait for a month for the CPU and Motherboard. For GPU you will have to wait for few months. Get a second hand GPU like GTX1080 or 1070 for low cost. When that GPUs are released get them.

I included 1 SAMSUNG 960PRO SSD fastest available M.2 drive. Crucial SSD is 2.5" version not the M.2 because I wanted that second M.2 Slot left empty to add second 960PRO in future.

That Case is good for custom loop water cooling setup. Like in a year when you have good $1500 to spend go for custom water cooling.

Nice ok. Instead of the Samsung 960PRO would I not just be able to add a U.2 adapter to the M.2 slot and install two 2.5" U.2 SSD's? Just from a common sense standpoint I do not see how a little M.2 Samsung 960PRO can compete with the big intel series 2.5" U.2 SSD..
