My friend gave me this hp w2072a for free cause he didnt have room for it in his set up, but when I try to play games on it it says input signal out of range and that I have to change the resolution to 1600x900. I have a gtx 1050 ti and use an hdmi to vga adapter for the monitor.
Please help.

you have to change you game resolution to 1600x900. You can do that with Geforce Experience for games outside of them.
It'd probably be best to change your desktop resolution to that as well, if it isn't.
You may have to disable DSR factors in Nvidia Control Panel as well. (http://nvidia.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/3587/~/how-to-enable-dynamic-super-resolution-in-games.)

Game settings are typically stored in a config.ini file somewhere in the game files, (right click and open it with notepad) there you could manually type in the resolution the game should run at.
