Hello all,
As you can tell from the title, I'm not much of a gamer.

I've put off upgrading my GPU because I have been convinced that there are worthy upgrades in my price range, which is just shy of mid-range.
So my question is twofold - considering my resolution (1920X1200) and my CPU (FX 8150, don't laugh), and the fact that I don't play much, but would like to be able to run something like GTA 5 or Battlefield 1 without much frustration, what would be a good card to consider?
Also, considering the recent spike in high-end GPU prices because of Ethereum mining - did the prices of lower end cards also experience increases? In which case I should wait, maybe?

Thanks to all

Low end cards and most mid-range cards are not affected by the miners. At least not in the Nvidia lineup. The mid-range AMD cards and above are still over priced however.
THe GTX 1050 Ti would be a good upgrade if you want to stay around $150 to $200. The GTX 1060 3GB requires a 450W or better PSU and will be about the max the aging FX-8150 cab keep up with w/o too much bottleneck. But that runs $200 and up.

You would need to go with the RX-470/570 and up in the AMD lineup. And they are still demanding a premium in price. The RX-560 is still normal cost, but it is a bit weaker than the others I mentioned.
You can use Tom's GPU Hierarchy Chart to get a feel as to where the various gfx cards fall in relation to each other today.

Thanks a lot for your answer. I think I'll go with a 1050 Ti, and when the time comes to upgrade again, I'll upgrade the whole system.

Sounds like a wise plan. The GTX 1050 Ti will breath new life in the old PC, and you won't break the bank for a future upgrade.

Still, if you are considering a 1050Ti maybe also look into the Rx560? Its a new unit (no rebrand) and a bit cheaper and slower than the Nvidia. Unfortunately all better AMD offerings are price-inflated and not worth it, a Rx570 would cost ~300..

The 560, and correct me if i'm wrong, doesn't seem like much of an upgrade over my 6850.
I'm sure it's better and more efficient, but not enough to swap out the existing gpu.
