MSI GTX 1070 Gaming X 8GB overkill for a 1080p 144hz monitor?
Hi, I'm thinking of buying a 1080p 144hz monitor in the next few months but I'm still not certain whether to spend more money to get a 1440p 144hz monitor, a monitor with 1ms response rate would be great. I'm wanting to play games like GTA 5 and the latest games preferably at 60 fps and above in ultra graphic detail. I have an Intel i7 7700k cpu with 16gb ram at 3200mhz. Deciding is hard as many of the 1440p 144hz monitors I've seen around are above £400 and that is a little too expensive; I am very worried about my bank account at the moment after buying parts for my new build. So, in your opinion do you think I should go with 1080p or 1440p with 144hz considering these factors? Thankyou!

Hellfire13 said:The more important fact is, the 1070 wont be able to drive 1440p/144hz ultra on most games. For that you will need a 1080 or even a 1080ti in some games. The 1070 is just about right to drive 1080p/144hz ultra in most games. So dont look beyond that for now, unless you change the card.
Thanks I agree with your point
The 1070 is generally considered a bit of overkill for 1080p.... and is better suited to 1440p. Remember the goal here is not to get all games at 143 fps, but to keep them between 60 and 144 fps. If it was, then what would be the point of 4K, nothing could drive it. In Anno 2205, while the 1070 delivers 63.4, even the 1080 Ti delivers only 82.7 fps. But as a Sim game, it's all about the detail rather than the movement.
https://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/MSI/GTX_1070_Gaming_X/5.htmlQuote:All video card results are obtained on this exact system with exactly the same configuration.
All games are set to their highest quality setting unless indicated otherwise.
AA and AF are applied via in-game settings, not via the driver's control panel.
Techpowerups gaming test Suite includes 16 of today's most demanding games and the 1070 averages 114.5 fps in those games. Overclocking the card offers another 12.8% or an average of 129 fps.
You mentioned GTAV and as you can see from the linked review, it delivers 105.2 fps outta the box, 119 OC'd. We have a 1440p IPS 165 Hz Screen (Acer Predator) and we find it perfect with that same MSI card (85 - 90 fps in GTAV)
