Should I get M.2 ? SSD? What brand should I get?

I want to get an internal storage device. Should I get an SSD or a M.2 or U.2? Which brand would you recommend for whichever is preferable?

Also, should use the M.2 Shield on my board? I've watched some reviews and learned that it increases the M.2's temps. under some circumstances?

Shield is helping IF m2 fills the space.

MP500 have great reviews. 950/960 is hardcore options for enthusiast. Anytime I would take samsung, but price is astonishing.
I would go with MP500, just by price/value ratio.
