I am planning to buy a 24" monitor for 1080p gaming.
The monitor i m interested in is ViewSonic VX2457-MHD 24".
It has DP 1.2 port.
I just want to know that is it compatible with the DP 1.3 & 1.4 ports on a gpu ?
Presently I'm usimg the gtx 970. But i also want use it for the upcoming Nvidia Volta GPU.

Pretty much any monitor with DP will work with any variation of DP output. You might not be able to use to full specs of your monitor though. IE if you get a 1440p 144hz monitor and your GPU is only DP1.1 then your monitor will only be able to refresh up to 75hz.

In your case though the monitor will be the limiting factor you'll get 1080p at 75hz best case.

DP will operate at the lowest level in the chain. If you use a DP1.1 output to a DP1.2 cable to a DP1.4 monitor it'll be limited to the 1.1 output.

Like I said the wikipedia page for DP is incredibly detailed and helpful for figuring these things out.

scroll down to the "Resolution and refresh frequency limits for DisplayPort" table.
