Cannot hear sound from monitor (yes it does have speakers)

Model: Asus VX248H 24-Inch FHD (1920x1080) Gaming Monitor

I used to be able to listen to music or w/e I felt like without headset thru the monitor, but it does not seem like it's working anymore.

Fact that might help you guys know why: I had to move and lost the DVI cable. I ordered a VGA cable and VGA to DVI adapter to connect it to the GPU.

You wont be able to hear the sound through your monitors; either you need hdmi cables, or you need an aux cable plugged in to the sound port of your mobo.
