Vote Now! $1,500 Budget Category

**THE VOTING PERIOD IS NOW OPEN** PLEASE FOLLOW THIS LINK TO VOTE.
We will accept votes on the Best PC Build until 9/20. Thanks for participating!

The Best PC Builds. Our title is practically self-explanatory. Unlike the System Builder Marathon, these configurations are not chosen by Tom's Hardware's editors. They are submitted and selected by our forum members based on defined pricing tiers. Every so often, we ask the community for its help picking parts based on performance and features for the price.

With Fall soon upon us, and Ryzen available to compete with Intel at every budget category, the time has come to ask Tom's Hardware members to once again submit their Best Builds. We're raising the stakes this time around, and will be sending members with winning submissions Newegg gift card good for $100.

We are accepting submission in each budget category until Thursday, September 14th. After the submission period will but the top builds to a Community vote. The builds with the most votes in each category will be crowned the Best Build.

This thread is for the $1,500 budget category. Please only submit builds within the $1,500 budget category to this thread. All other builds will be disqualified.

Please make sure to follow the ground rules below. Any builds over budget will be disqualified.

Here are the ground rules:
  • Only one build per budget category, per user. Multiple builds from a single user or duplicate accounts will be disqualified.
  • Do not go over budget.
  • Use only Amazon OR Newegg to source parts.
  • Use list prices only: coupons, rebates, bundles or any other limited-time offers will not be accepted.
  • Do not include shipping or tax in your final budget.
  • Do not include the Operating System, Monitor or VR Headset, Keyboard, Mouse or Gamepad.
  • Do not put your forum handle in the name of your build, and avoid odd capitalizations & symbols.
  • Provide links to the Amazon or Newegg product pages of each component — we encourage users to use PCPartPicker's System Build for speedy construction. Do not post a link to your build, but rather please be sure to export as BBCode for a quick copy/paste to the forums.

Here are links to all seven build categories:

    Very nice! :)
With a bit of workaround you can fit one of those flashy orange Gigabyte boards like the K5.

RGB is better, that way you can match the lighting to the case color.

  12. I wanted it to be able to do HTPC duties (including a Plex server with transcoding), play any Steam game thrown at it at 1080p, and still look nice by a television. SSD is for the OS and games. HD is for movies. The ability to overclock is a bonus as well. This is built around the Node 202 as a result. Wattage isn't an issue thanks to Silverstone's 700w PSU.

Probably doesn't fare too well against the competition here, but I'll submit this here anyways. Should still be able to run games well and all.

It's actually $29.99, upon which there's some rebate applied. So it shows as $12.99.

My system draw is 254 Watts, this is a 450W PSU. 56% of max load seems alright to me. Fairly efficient at 80+ Bronze.

Price aside, do you still reckon it's insufficient?

No that PSU is house fire quality. And on a $1500 build it would be unacceptable. You want at least a G3 / P3 or a Seasonic Prime.

Thanks for the suggestion. Personally, as long as the reviews are alright, I've been happy with cheaper PSUs. I've updated my build. It's not a Seasonic Prime, but it's a stable power delivery unit and comes with good warranty.

The BV series is HEC built junk, iirc.

It's a terrible PSU regardless of warranty, and on that kind of build will cause instability.
  29. To be fair for a 1060 3GB kaby lake system with a low power draw CPU like the G4560 even under load the system should only draw around 300w, a BT or BV might not be optimal, and yes they are rather poor quality (Updated B1s), but it will technically run with no problem.
You can see prebuilt 1070 systems running off generic 450w units, even lower wattages sometimes in some HP or Alienware systems, a 1060 shouldn't be any trouble with a slightly higher quality unit than that.

Do you mean the Corsair is also a poor unit?
  31. Go to PSU Tier Lists for power supply related questions. As for whether Corsair CXM series is crap, the short answer is yes. At its non-rebate price the B3 series offers a better performing 3.3V and ripple control. At its rebate price it's good since there is no other usable power supplies. But just because it's low priced and decent doesn't mean you buy the CXM over other units that are more expensive.

Thanks for pointing me to the PSU tiers. I'm afraid my research on PSUs is a bit outdated and this info is great.

Yes it would definitely be wise to brush up. Quality of the unit matters almost as much if not more than wattage output.

Damn it was hard getting this "no compromises" system together for under $1500. Ryzen 7. An aftermarket cpu cooler that runs quieter and cooler than the 212 evo. 16Gb's of 3200mhz ram. A high quality overclockable mobo. A 1080ti. A (small) SSD for os and a few applications. A high quality semi modular psu. A somewhat nice looking (cheap) case.

I considered going Ryzen but Intel still offers the best gaming performance and I decided this would be a gaming pc. I fit a 6700k and 1080 ti in there while still having good aesthetics, what more is there to ask for?
