Dual DVI and 144hz

I currently have an aorus gtx 1080 with a benq xl2411 monitor connected via dual link DVI cable. However, no other refresh rate option other than 60hz shows up in the windows 10 option/nvidia control panel menus. I used to have the monitor connected to an EVGA gtx 970 via the same dual link DVI cable, and it used to run the 144hz refresh rate fine (it even allowed me to choose between other refresh rates such as 120hz). The monitor only came with the dual link dvi cable and an extra power cable. Do the new 10 series not support 144hz unless it is connected via a display port cable? If so, my monitor only has 3 connectivity options (HDMI, VGA, DVI), and using the display port cable would not be possible.

Thanks for the help!

Ironic name :(
Thanks for the input. I've been searching around for some time now and displayport seems to be the only answer. Lets hope someone else has a solution

I have the same issue and in my scenario I was able to get to 1080p 65Hz with a custom resolution....

I just tried (1920x1080 144hz) but the screen goes black upon test and it displays no input signal until the test ends.

I have tried 120hz returned black screen, the maximum for me was 65Hz

No other hz works through the customizing option. I have however discovered that my display adapter allows other specific modes such as 1024 by 768 @ 120hz or 800 by 600 @ 120hz which doesn't make sense.

What monitor and graphics card are you using? Are you also using the dual link dvi cable that came with the monitor?

yes I am the OP of the post. I was wondering if you are using the same rigs as I am because that could mean that the gpu is the problem.

Yes I have the exact same build as you with the exact same issue.
Heres thread: http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/id-3501971/144-option-settings-build.html

I managed to make a 1080p custom resolution with 101Hz
Even 1440p 101Hz gives the monitor image which surprised me
Havent yet found a faster refresh rate than 101Hz on the custom resolution option in nvidia control panel

Solution

What timings have you been using? Try these for 1080p 144 Hz:
