Trying to set up multiple monitors using hdmi

I recently got an EVGA 980ti hybrid and decided to go hdmi on both of my monitors (assuming this is possible) https://www.amazon.com/ASUS-VS248H-P-1920x1080-Back-lit-Monitor/dp/B0058UUR6E instead of hdmi on primary and dvi on the secondary.

When attempting to use the dvi-to-hdmi adapter on the 2nd monitor the screen goes black, saying the "dvi signal can't be detected."

Any tips would be appreciated.

You may be better of using Display port to HDMI adapter.

Do the monitors/adapters work individually?

DVI and HDMI are the same though, if it works with DVI then may as well just use that.
