This seems like a direct answer to Facebook and Apple, which have both introduced similar technologies. And, as I said at Facebook's launch of their phone-based AR platform, this will kill your batteries.

IMO, it's only use is to give people a taste of AR and to slightly widen the AR market to lure in more app developers. But not if it doesn't rapidly ramp up the number of supported devices.

Ultimately, it's just a stepping stone until we get mass market AR headsets (that don't look like part of a Halloween costume).
