Need a Second Opinion on What Monitor to Buy.

I've been using an old Asus VS228 since I first built my computer about 3 or so years ago and it's started going out on me lately so I figure it's about time I get a new display. Right now I'm looking in the $300 - $400 USD price range ( $450 after tax MAX) and can't seem to pin down what I think is the best feature to go for; 32" 2560 x 1440, 34" 21:9 ultra-wide, or a high refresh display. My current Asus is a 21" I believe and lately it just hasn't been cutting it for watching videos and I don't really have a place in my room to put a full size TV, but I've read that a 32" monitor can be overwhelming. This being my first time looking into buying a new monitor I'm just looking for some second opinions on what other people think is the best thing to look for when deciding what monitor to buy.

What are your system specs? That will determine if you should go with 1440p or 1080p and if you should look for gsync or freesycn.

$450 will not get you a great ultrawide, you will need to spend more for a good ultra wide. But 450 will be you a very nice TN panel.

If you have a Nvidia GPU, this would be a very good monitor.

Free sync is much cheaper than gsync, so if you have a AMD CPU, you will be able to get a better monitor for less money.

Here is a good 1440p monitor to pair with an AMD card. Although, you will need a high end AMD GPU to push this monitor.

Here would be a decent 1080p monitor for a AMD GPU.

Yeah I totally spaced putting my specs in there, my bad; I'm running a gtx 960 clocked at 1530 mhz boost and an old fx 6300 @ 4.3 ghz. I really don't play many current gen games and don't really care all that much about the resolution for gaming. I figured if I'm going to buy a large screen I should up the resolution also since I've read that larger 1080p screens can be hard to read text off of and I've been dabbling in some programming lately and I read a lot off of my PC. As long as I can play league of legends and overwatch at 60+ fps running at 1440p I'll be fine as far as gaming goes (I'll lower the res to 1080p or turn graphics settings down for more demanding games). Right now I'm a bit torn between this samsung: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00L3KNOF4/ref=ox_sc_sfl_title_2?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER and this ultra-wide LG: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01BMES072/ref=ox_sc_sfl_title_1?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER. I like the fact that the samsung can rotate into portrait mode which seems like it would be nice for reading web articles but the ultra-wide's screen real estate seems enticing for my programming and watching movies.
