Games keep resetting my monitor refresh rate to 50 htz

Hi I currently have a ben q monitor that is 1080@60 but whenever I go into a video game it changes to 50 htz refresh rate therefor my games max out at 50 fps. I have to go into the game settings to change this back to 60 htz refresh rate and if the game doesn't have an option to change the refresh rate well I am just out of luck for that game. I'm wondering if there is a setting hidden in windows or NVidia control panel (I have a gtx 780 graphics card) to change my refresh rate to 60 htz for good. Thank you

So the desktop resolution is set to 60Hz?

You can try this instead:
NCP-> Change Resolution

Make a new 1920x1080, 60Hz resolution option and change.

No idea if that will work.

That probably would work as it should default to the desktop refresh rate. it's odd that games aren't defaulting to the desktop refresh though.

*Please confirm the desktop is actually at 60Hz?
