Hello everyone, i'm currently running a strix 970 and i'd like to upgrade because i'm running a 1080p 144hz monitor and i'd like to hit 144fps in most of my games, so i was wondering what to do, getting another 970 or selling my 970 and getting a 1080?
Because another 970 would be fairly cheap where i live, Argentina, costing me up to 250USD.
but a 1080 would cost me like 813usd.

And also , i dont know if i could fit a sli setup in my motherboard, its a gigabyte z97x gaming 7, i have my 970 in the first pci-e slot then right below there is another pci-e slot but i have my soundcard next to it and i dont have another port for it, i don´t want to sacrifice my soundcard haha. i'll attach a photo.
thanks in advance.

Single card solutions over SLI/X-Fire all day, every day.
A second card would not fit without removing the sound card. And it looks like even if you do multi-gpu, they'd be starved for air anyway.
Get the 1080, or even the 1070(assuming the prices have come down on them from the gouging somewhat).

I thought the same, hope i can find a good deal on a 1080 haha.
Just one last thing, do you think there is a possibility that a 1080 would be too much for an i5 4690k overclocked to 4.4ghz? could it cause a bottleneck?

Most definitely the 1080. The Gigabyte G1 or Windforce.

With those settings you will easily surpass the 970's 4GB worth of VRAM usage.

No I don't. I have the 4690K and have looked into that. Any idea which GFX card I'm using? Yep, the 970(EVGA FTW)

I was thinking about the evga ftw one, why are you recommending gigabyte specifically?

Only a slight bottleneck in games that use more than 4 threads, like BF1, for example - i.e. games that actually favor I7s and Ryzen 1600 and up... in other words, not that many.
By the way, how are prices of the 1070(also good at 1080p/144hz) in your area? It should be cheaper than 1080... there may be some models that aren't ridiculously jacked up compared to others.

1070 go for arround 650usd here, i think that if i can go for the 1080 i should go for it even though the 1070 is a bit cheaper

:D Thanks for the question. I got the model wrong.

If you do pick one with a bit more hair on its chest the FTW2 is my pick. Why? http://www.tomshardware.com/answers/id-3516634/evga-geforce-gtx-1080-ftw2-evga-geforce-gtx-1080-sc2.html

I see. Then get the cheapest 1080 you can find. Due to the design of 1000 series gpus, the performance differences between the same models is minimal(a couple fps). After price, it comes down to visual appeal(what looks 'cool' to you), noise level(some are louder than others), and cooling(the cooler ones should perform SLIGHTLY better, couple fps, lol).
