Hard Drive Recovery After Reset

I recently had to reset my windows PC due to error and I heard that if you choose "just remove my files" instead of "clean the drive" that it makes recovery a lot easier. I have photos and music that I'd like to have back. If somebody can point me to how to get these back it'd be much appreciated.
