On Windows 10 64-bit, Ryzen 1600, R9 290.
There's a program on steam called Wallpaper Engine which basically sets Live Wallpapers for windows, and it uses Windows' default app as the 'player', which is now Films & TV, for "Video" type backgrounds. It was causing huge amounts of CPU usage.
On checking with the developer and doing some tests, I found that Films & TV do not use hardware acceleration, playback of videos often spike CPU usage >50%. For reference, VLC player uses <5%.
In the old clunky AMD drivers, one could find "Hardware Acceleration" options, but I can't find them anywhere on the new Crimson drivers.
Similarly, I could not find any Windows options to enable hw acceleration; previous threads were just abandoned with Windows 7 era canned responses.
Could anyone please help me with with finding these options? Or are there other solutions to the high CPU usage?
