Dual Identical Monitors - Can't get same resolution

I have two LG 24MP60 monitors, they were both running at identical resolution , one on HDMI and the other via computer's VGA via a DVI converter (monitor has HDMI andDVI inputs). Graphics card has a VGA, HDMI and Display port. Out of nowhere resilution on one monitor (via VGA) is at lower resolution and will not be set to monitor's recommended resolution.

Is this potentially a windows update issue? Problem follows computer output not monitor.

Any advice?

so you have made no hardware changes? converters are funny things and you should try to avoid them

Right, no hardware changes...when I installed the new monitors I did not have a VGA to DVI cable or a DP to HDMI cable and had to go with the converter suspecting that it might cause issues, but it was stable for months, then all of a sudden the monitor was only recognized a a generic non HDMI
