Wolfenstein New Order caps at 60 fps

Hi

My specs. 4790K @4.4GHz on Noctua ND14, EVGA GTX 1080 FE, Samsung 850 PRO SSD, 16 GB 2133 DDR3 RAM and other stuff.

Screen, Dell U2415 UltraSharp, regular setting 1980x1200 at 60GHz. I know it is a bottleneck for any serious GPU upgrade.

My favorite games are Far Cry 4 user maps and Far Cry 5 when it comes, and Wolfenstein series.

I had previously GTX 970 and I could play Far Cry on only HIGH settings smoothly with FPS deeping sometimes to 30-40 FPS, hence the upgrade.

So in addition to upgrade I decided to overclock my U2415 using NVIDIA control panel "Custom Resolution" option.
Overclock it is, from 60GHz to 80GHz, tested with various blur tests, all pass with flying colors, no frame skipping etc.

Tried Far Cry 4 and Wolfenstein New Order, both cranked to ULTRA and everything as HIGH as possible.

Result is very frustrating - FPS is fixed at 60, not 80 as it should, WTF? Monitor already overclocked to 80GHz, so FPS suppose to be at 80 or around, correct?

What am I missing?

Appreciate any suggestions as always

I think he means V-Sync is capping the game to 60 fps rather than 80.

Try playing without V-Sync. From what I've seen it V-Sync seems to only cap to standardized values like 60, 120, and 144 in some games, depends on implementation I guess.

Also it's just Hz, not GHz. 60 refreshes per second is not the same as 60 billion refreshes per second. The G isn't just for decoration, it does mean something.

Could you please explain then, how to increase FPS. I experimented on Wallenstein The New Order, turned Vsync on and off - no difference, FPS stays on 60 and I have no idea what is the frame limiter (not that I am planning to use it).

I know that I did a mistake, thanks for correction GHz not, but Hz.

Appreciate for suggestions, at least here I have some ideas, not like @ overclocker forum - nothing.

Edit. Just tried Far Cry 4, this game is officially supported by NVIDIA, but I did not use Geforce Experience yet. I put this game on ULTRA quality (with GTX 970 I could play only on HIGH, and FPS were dropping some times) and V sync off - and it is working at 90 FPS, but if I enable Vsync, FPS stuck @ 60, why? Should it be 80 instead?

You can check with the specific game support and see why it does not go over 60fps if the hardware can run it faster, there are some support threads on it on steam https://steamcommunity.com/app/201810/discussions/0/523897653313466955/

Thanks for pointing me in this direction.

Your link did not provide the answer, but it lead me to it.

Apparently Wolfenstein New Order and Wolfenstein The Old Blood are locked to 60 FPS in the engine, but some smart guys found the way around it. It is applicable to RAGE as well (I don't have it).

The following links are must to read in order to unlock FPS in those 2 games. It might be applicable to the new Wallenstein Colossus coming this Fall as well, who knows.

Here you go

Actually, second video is just next after the first one. So, result of this tweaking is as much FPS as your system can support. Will try soon myself, but it seems legit.

I hope it helps other people.

I wish I could change the title of that thread to address this issue.
