Which flavour Grand Theft Auto IV is best?

Hi, I love the GTA series. I've played V, San Andreas & Vice City and loved them. Anyway, I've thought about picking up a copy of the predecessor to V which is, of course, Grand Theft Auto IV.

I'd like to play it because I never had chance when it came out and I want to see what it's like. I know it's horribly optimised and some consider it to be the worst in the series but I want to make my own opinion.

Question is, what version is best -

Standard GTA IV?
The Ballad of Gay Tony?
The Lost And The Damned?

They are all different, so you probably want to play all of them. However, if you want to be free to muck about and have some fun, then don't start with GTA IV as most of the city is off limits to start with. My pick would be "The lost and damned", that's if you want the whole map to explore, enjoy gun fights and racing.
