Hey all, soon I’m going to be upgrading my setup and wanted to know a few things before the full revamp.

The first thing I want to do is move my monitors from their individual stands onto one arm stand. Since I’m completely new to this, how should one go about looking for the arm? The monitors are two different monitors, they are not the same (Acer on left, Asus on right), but they are both 24”. The only thing I’ve learned so far is that I’m looking for something called a VESA mount. Not completely sure what that is though.

My second mini question branching off of the first one is: should the arm be mounted to the table or the second layer I plan on adding. The second layer is one of those 2 inch things off of the desktop that people use to store crap like a keyboard under to create desk space.

Edit: The monitors are the acer R240HY and the Asus ROG SWIFT PG248Q

Solution
VESA is simply an industry standard for the spacing of the screw holes on the back of display panels.

Your Asus ROG has 100x100 VESA screw holes.
Your Acer is NOT VESA compatible. There are no mount holes on that.

So if my acer is ucompatable, does that mean I would have to buy some sort of adapter? If that is the case, would I be able to buy a acer to 100x100 so the monitors fit the same stand?

So you get some arms like this:
https://www.amazon.com/Non-VESA-Standard-Mounting-Brackets-003-0023/dp/B00QVRTUQ6

Bolts to any standard VESA mounting arm, and 'grabs' the monitor by the edges.
Looks kinda crappy, though.

I found this:
https://www.amazon.com/Adapter-Bracket-Monitors-R231bmid-G227HQL/dp/B01771Q6U2

It allows you to put it into the Acer like the stock stand, and allows you to put it into a VESA 75x75 or 100x100. This seems like exactly what I was thinking of, pricey though!

As for buying the stand itself any recommendations for a 2 arm 100x100 VESA? Any companies I should and shouldn't look at?

Also, thanks for all your help so far!

Yeah, that thing might work.
I don't have any specific recommendations for a dual desk mount. I have one that came with my old HP monitors.

Haha, alright. I did end up finding what I think I'm going to go with. It will put me a total of 60$ down which is reasonable for this...I think?

Im going to go with:
The adapter for ease of installation: https://www.amazon.com/Adapter-Bracket-Monitors-R231bmid-G227HQL/dp/B01771Q6U2
VIVO Stand-V002: https://www.amazon.com/VIVO-Monitor-Mount-Adjustable-Screens/dp/B009S750LA/ref=pd_sim_147_3?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=92XM3YQZENK2B91C0273&dpID=41pDPvVJueL&preST=_SY300_QL70_&dpSrc=detail

Thank you again for your help explaining the measurement system and your recommendations!

Yes, that looks to be a good dual stand.
