An interpreted language like Perl, Python, etc. Why? Instant feedback on errors. Compiled code is great for production code, but not a benefit for learning.

Scratch 2 may seem childish and trivial at first but once you attempt to do something serious or otherwise more involved it becomes quite challenging.

However, the drag and drop tools allow you to readily experiment, modify, and correct your script.

Scratch 2 is an excellent way to learn some basic programming skills. And the necessary logic involved.
