Hey people, I need some experienced advice from the community. I am currently researching parts for my new PC build and i am running into massive discussions about CPU's and GPU's. I know that i would like a GTX1070 or a GTX1080 however i do not know what CPU to pair these with. My budget does not allow me to get an i7 770k with a GTX1080 :(. So i was wondering should i get a GTX1070 with an i7 770k or a GTX1080 with an i5 7600k? or a GTX1070 with i5 7600k. I want my PC to be able to stream on twitch and YouTube at ultra at (1080p but preferably 1440p) with the latest triple A titles. I wouldn't like to overclock if possible. Thanks for your input :)

i5 8600k perform on par, if not better than i7 7700k, if u need the extra threads (for workstation perhaps), the i7 8700k would be great :), for pure gaming, the 8600k is enough imo
PSU is a good quality and with 750w will give u a lot of headroom [and help u stay on a better efficiency curve imo] (can even handle SLI should u want to go that way, but will be a bit max out, so if u're planning on SLI, a 850w would be better)[/strike]

PSU lowered to 550w for price sake, but still a good quality, so don't worry
mechanical keyboard + a great fps gaming mouse :)
i5 8600k would still be pretty awesome for both gaming + streaming (considering that extra 2 cores from the kabylake lineup)
overclocking it would be awesome mate (+ the only mobo around is a Z mobo anyway [which allows OC] so why not OC it instead :) u can use the profile provided by manufacturer [usually] if u're afraid of manual OC)

@constantine_99 constantine_99 This is a very nice build! How quiet is it and will the i5 not be bottle necked by the GPU? Is it upgradable for the future?

No i haven't considered anything other than Intel as I am most familiar with them. However please enlighten me, am i better to go for ryzen and amd? Please do not start a GPU war though :)

Above build is pretty good. My choice with Ryzen for its 8 core potential, better streaming and running cooler :) :

Ryzen is great at price/performance, but expect a less FPS from them, if u're gaming on a 60hz monitor, the CPU won't matter [which means the ryzen path is better] since the both can achieve them pretty well, if u're targetting 144 or even more perhaps, the intel would be better

must be wondering why i put the X instead of normal version, X version, would save u from the hassle of manual OC, since it'll self-OC whenever the situation allows, also it had better base clock and higher boost clock
also, the 6c/12t is more than enough for gaming and streaming (r5 1600 can also achieve better fps than the r7, which is why i recommend it instead of the R7 XD)
if u want to save more money and manual OC though, u can erase the aftermarket cooler and get the normal R5 1600 version instead (it'll come with a stock cooler, which is good enough for stock clock / light OC :))

PS: if u still want the 8c/12t R7 though, u can :), the budget is still there after all :)

These are amazing! Thanks guys. However my question is still the same how do these ryzen processers differ from i7s and i5s? Are they better or worse?

the same really [won't bottleneck it], it's pretty much depends on your resolution instead

since Intel had better IPC, they will win when the IPC matters (single core speed) especially with their 5GHz OC capability, this would benefit u if u want to go on 1080p@144 / 1440p@144 (high refresh rate gaming)

if u only play on 60 / 75hz, then Ryzen and Intel performs on par, all while the Ryzen offers more cores for less bucks :)

i would suggest:
Ryzen, if u play on fps below 100ish (60, 75, etc) [after all, they are cheaper, had more cores/threads, and some variant comes with a decent stock cooler] >> price/performance, decent fps target
Intel, if it's more than 100 (120,144, etc) [u will always pay a premium for this, but their peak fps are higher than AMD] >> raw performance, high fps target

yes, that's the simple way of saying it :)

Ryzen is awesome, if u don't need the highest fps (but still needs the extra core performance), also, if u're on a tight budget

Coffelake is awesome, if u need those high fps, but also needs those extra cores [extra price though]

So, I want to stream at 1080p / 1440p. Would a ryzen 7 and gtx 1080 be enough for 60fps and above on all latest and future titles? And if i got an intel i5 8600k with a gtx 1080 would that be enough for 60fps and above on all latest and future titles. This is at 60hz. However if you could can you tell me if it would work at 144hz. Ideally i would like this to last me a few years.

would it work? yes
would it reach the 144? probably not, unless u're playing an e-sport title :)

with Ryzen u might only reach 110-120ish while Intel can reach the 130-150 mark imo (on 1080p of course)
on the 1440p the gap would be smaller but the peak fps also lower

as for futureproofing, we can't say much, it'll really depends on the technology development (Ryzen 2.0 is on the way, also Cannonlake)
but on lifespan-wise, the CPU will last pretty long (a couple of years) the R7 should last even longer since it had more core/threads which future program and stuff should use :)

btw, don't worry, a few months ago i'm the same as u, all of us here are ever-learning :) i just had a few month experience ahead of u that's all really :) everyone's answer, comment and suggestion help us to gain knowledge and become wiser
keep doing those research mate :D
