The Win 10 Microsoft Edge browser is now harvesting my Personal Data. The opt-out comes with the imposition of caveats which invokes the question How do I get my Privacy back!

Does anyone know how to remove the Microsoft Edge browser and install a browser that does not harvest Personal Data? Thank you.

PostScript:
DuckDuckGo say they do not store personal information, or track you, or impose ads. However I did not find the DuckDuckGo browser, only the set DuckDuckGo as your default search engine within Edge!

I looked into those, but in the end I'm just sticking with Google Chrome.

I'm more concerned with malware getting on my PC, not whether someone knows what web sites I went to or my shopping habits. It's pretty hard to stop all data mining, or do so in a way that doesn't degrade your online experience.

It's all quite complicated, and things keep changing so I just gave up. My bank account data is very safe which is mainly all I care about.

You do not remove EDGE, however you can install Google Chrome and change the default browser used for launching certain programs. I'll post this then give links below.

You can pin that to your Start Menu, however I would pin to your TASKBAR so it's much easier to find to launch

how to change default browser used by Windows 10:

If you use PDF files, I like the free program "Reader" that you can get from the W10 Store (again, it's free). Just type in "PDF" to the search and you'll see Reader pop up.

May need to change it to work as DEFAULT application.

*One way to change default applications is to right-click the file (JPG, PDF, etc) and click "open with..." then choose the program and check "ALWAYS OPEN WITH.." and okay.

A bit off topic, but I really like these programs:
a) Faststone http://www.faststone.org/FSViewerDownload.htm

b) KLite Standard https://www.codecguide.com/download_kl.htm

c) Musicbee (for your own music to rip and play mostly) https://www.getmusicbee.com/downloads/
(I use the skin "Dark->SpotifyB"

ADS: I use the addon for Chrome called "Adblock Plus"

To add it, click the right THREE DOTS, then "More Tools", "Extensions" and the at the bottom of the Extensions page click "Get More Extensions"

OTHER:
You should also disable any of the data mining or other privacy features in W10 as you see fit. under
Start->Settings->Privacy

Some of the privacy settings are not as important as people make them out to be, such as data that is just aggregate (just a number added to other numbers by Microsoft that doesn't tie back to you).

The SPYING thing has been hyped way out of proportion. I'm not saying there aren't issues, but I would concentrate on what can truly affect you.

There are also default settings in Google Chrome as well but you can Google that on your own. In particular knowing SHOPPING and BROWSING habits is big money as it ties into targeted ads.

Evidently, the Windows 10 Operating System is Microsoft's venture into collecting increasing amounts of their customers’ Personal Data. The problems start with Microsoft’s privacy policy, which is now included in the Windows 10 end-user license agreement so that it applies to everything you do on a Windows PC, not just online. Changing the privacy settings in Windows 10 is explained in the article "Windows 10 shamelessly wants your data. Here's how to protect yourself." This article also advocates "Don’t Use Edge or Cortana, stick with Firefox or Chrome as a browser, or even good old Internet Explorer."
