How outdated is my CPU?

Hello all! I was wondering if anyone could tell me how outdated my CPU is - I I've got a Intel i7-4770K Quad-Core 3.5 GHz on a Asus Sabretooth Z87 motherboard. These were purchased in 2013 and not upgraded since. I recently picked up a new GTX 1060 and was thinking about increasing RAM for my PC since I have a VR set and wanted to smooth out framerate. So long story short, do I have an ancient CPU and if so, can anyone recommend a good upgrade to go for, trying to keep it reasonably priced. Thanks!

Is this a gaming pc? If so, a 4770k should provide no bottleneck to any gpu - in terms of gaming it is still solid.

How much RAM do you have installed? You may not need to upgrade

Well it looks like that cpu came out in the middle of 2013. It is now late 2017. So its about 4 years outdated. If you want a good cpu, the best one for gaming is i7-7700K. However, I do not know what your budget is for upgrading a cpu, so if its around $300, then i7-7700k is right up your alley. Else, then you have to tell me and I can make a recommendation based on if the budget is below that mark.

Nothing wrong with that at all, still a good gaming CPU etc.

More ram is usually a good thing to add.

I'm running a 3570k and a 3770k. Without issue. Granted I don't see the extra fps at the top end afforded by newer cpus, but on a standard 60Hz 1080p monitor there's exactly no difference between 300fps of a new cpu and the 200fps on my cpus. I get 60. Period.

The Intel Core i7-8700K has already been launched and is about 11% faster than the i7-7700K.
