The whole screen turns into colourful barcoded lines flickering

While working on my laptop, suddenly, the whole screens starts flickering with colourful barcodes. Restarting the laptop after few hours , it’s is normal and then again after sometime the problem again starts.
Please suggest where the fault could be.

Failed video card (if it has one), or bad connection to the monitor.

plug a monitor into the laptop if the onboard screen is bad but the ext monitor is fine. looking at the display or inverter board going bad. check to see if the laptop has any warranty..recall or class actions lawsuit on it. few laptops have had bad defects and class action lawsuits over the years for bad gpu/system boards.
