Hi there, I just have a quick question.

I recently just bought the ASUS ROG SWIFT PG278QR 27" 2560x1440 1ms 165Hz G-SYNC to be my main display screen. I decided to keep my old monitor which is the viewsonic VX2703 SERIES (1920x1080@60Hz).

I have monitor setup in extended mode and occasionally my background/wallpaper will go completely black. When this happens the only thing I am able to see is my taskbar and the icons that I have pin there. I am still able to access applications via start menu or go on the internet if need be.

To solve this problem I typically just go to the bottom right hand corner and click the action center, and then go to project and then click either pc screen only or second screen only or just click extended and everything goes back to normal.

My question is, because I have two different monitors with two different resolutions and refresh rates is this know to causes compatibility issues? I have tried reinstalling my graphics drivers, everything is update to date and current. Connections are all working well, nothing is loose. Has anyone else experiences your background or wallpaper going completely black?

Should I connect my 1080p monitor to my motherboards integrated graphics? What do you guys think?

Solution
you need to go to your bios and in the graphic card settings change the video selector from auto to (if possible) dual , this will permit external video card + internal video card (on board).

I have no problem with a 4k monitor and a 2560P monitor.
Nor, for that matter on two monitors on a different pc.
Both are attached to a GTX... graphics card.
I imagine that you have some sort of a software problem.

Go ahead and try using the integrated graphics for the old static monitor.

Okay, yeah I'll do that and see if that changes anything. Also it might actually sound silly but I went into display settings i rearranged my displays and then hit Identify and then clicked apply.

Also changed my DVI cord from my 1080p monitor to an HDMI cable to see if that also helps. Maybe, by me not going into display setting and hitting apply, maybe that was messing things up. But, I love trouble shooting so lets see where this gets me.

Thank you for your reply Geofelt = )

From what I see, a lot of people use different monitors with different resolutions and refresh rates. I have never known this to be an issues of any kind. But, I figured its always good to ask since I am no expert. Worst case situation, I'll just buy the exact same monitor that I just bought as my second. I just don't want to have to do that unless I have too.

Thank you for your reply = )

So I tried plugging my HDMI cable to the motherboard area and it doesn't work, I have tried reinstalling my graphics driver and still same issue. So yeah I have no idea what the problem is.

When you plug a graphics card into the motherboard it usually automatically disables the on-board graphics by default. Not sure if you are able to override this, maybe someone else can shed some light on it.
