Can DisplayPort work for dual monitors?

Hello, so I bought a HDMI to VGA cable today only to realize the HDMI port will not work on my second monitor. The only option now on my GTX 750 ti graphics card is to use the DisplayPort and I really don't want to waste more money on something that probably wont work. Have anyone ever used the DisplayPort to connect a monitor?

Yes, DisplayPort is quite common on higher end equipment, it has better multi-monitor support than any other interface.
