PC hooked up to TV refresh rate Question

I have a Vizio d650i-c1 TV with a Fake 120hz refresh rate. I know it is technically a 60hz but it gets processed up to something resembling 120 by the tv.

I had a gtx 1070 in my compy that, when plugged in, I could go to display adapter properties and then monitor settings and set the refresh rate to 120hz, not just 60 and below. It made a difference and I liked it despite it being fake 120hz.

My 1070 died unexpectedly (RIP) and I'm working that out, so I put my R9 270x in instead. In monitor settings under display adapter properties now it will only let me choose 60hz as the refresh rate and no higher. Is it just because its an older card and the TV cant work its up-jumping on the refresh rate like normal or what?

I own two Vizio 4K TVs, both allow real 120hz in the driver. But only at 1080p or less. Remember the limitation is often just the HDMI bandwidth not the TV itself. You could try setting up a custom resolution to test it with the R9 270. I don't recall which HDMI version is on that card. My cards are currently: GTX 1080, GTX 1070, GTX 1050m, GTX 860m (where did all my old AMD go. *shrug*)

I was able to get my old R9 290x to run at both 4K 60hz and 1080p 120hz, but only while using a active Display Port to HDMI 2.0 Adapter.

To get those resolutions to show up in games I had to use Custom Resolution Utility, and then the games would actually let me select 1080p 120hz from the game settings! Woot!
