Hi all, Very new here so bare with me.

I have a CYBERPOWERPC GUA882 Gaming PC pre built. only thing I've changed is the PSU.

---Processor: AMD FX-4300 3.8GHz

---GPU: AMD R7 240 2GB,

---RAM: 8GB DDR3 ,

---PSU: Silence 500W ATX - LINK: (https://www.amazon.co.uk/Silence-Power-Supply-Silent-MOLEX/dp/B00P2GE38C/ref=sr_1_5?s=computers&ie=UTF8&qid=1508765700&sr=1-5&keywords=psu)

---HARDDRIVE: 128GB SSD + 1TB 7200RPM HDD SECONDARY,

---OS: Win 10 Home

Basically wanting to get rid of the r7 240 for something that can run most games in medium-low without a cpu Bottleneck. Not wanting to change PSU or Processor at the moment. which Graphics card is recommended?

is an AMD R9 270x decent enough to run GTA V and will my PSU power it?

Thank you for your help.

ok so your looking for cheap cards I take it.

a 270x will run gta v with that 4300 fine.

you are going to be looking at used hardware for the most bang for buck here.

gpu prices are very high at the moment and I would recommend you look into a 7870(cheapest best deal) or a 280x (fastest you should use without bottleneck)

the 4300 will bottleneck your games because its a kinda slow cpu but that's going to be just fine because you should still be able to push 40 fps at medium settings on a 7870 with gta v

The best path for you to look into would be to spend about $250 and get a 8350 cpu and then pickup a r9 290 or 280x aka (390 or 380) and a good cooler all on ebay. I built a good pc doing this method for $500 total and it plays about 60 fps on gta 5 high settings

1050 ti would bottleneck him hard and costs more than he is looking to spend for sure. yea its going to keep power under limits but 500W should be enough for a 7870 and 4300 build. even this bad psu should be able to keep this thing from shutting down.

the 4300 would be the bottleneck not the 1050 ti

the 1050 ti is about max gpu wise he should get

dont assume his crap psu is actually 500w just because it says so on the box

Where did he say how much he wanted to spend?

Either way its crap psu, I would only be using cards that dont require any pci-e connectors, no more than around 75w.

Thanks for the advise guys, I have purchased a FXF AMD Radeon R7870 as recommended by @Vogner16 above.

I've decided a new PSU Is required as I don't have the sufficient Connectors available in my current PSU. Would a Seasonic S12 II Bronze 430W ATX PSU be wise to buy to power a R7870 + FX4300?

Yes, it's a far better PSU than the one you put in and one of the standard budget choices (along with the 520 and 620 of the same line and the new Corsair CXM 450). I just wish you had asked before so we could have saved you that 20 quid!

to the point of my assumption he is looking for cheap I got that from the fact he is using a prebuilt system that had a 4300 and r7 240. both are the slowest cpu gpu that amd offered in 2013 so I can assume that he was working on the lowest of budget. also was meaning that the 4300 would bottleneck a 1050ti hard so its kinda pointless to get it.

a 7870 will pull about 225 to 250w put with a FX series 4 core and 8gb ram that's like 350W to 400W plus hard drive and ssd. maybe 420w max load. I would not get less than a 500W psu. you can check the values for wattage pull at any online psu calculator.

seasonic is a good brand but its not smart to buy a psu that is assumed to be 100% of its load. plugging in a usb stick or another fan could be enough to trip the load circuit.

A 7870 does not pull 225 to 250W at load.

Measured power consumption R7870

System in IDLE = 157W
System Wattage with GPU in FULL Stress = 274W
Difference (GPU load) = 117W
Add average IDLE wattage ~10W
Subjective obtained GPU power consumption = ~ 127 Watts

What *PSU would you recommend in the £40-£60 region?

*Edit: Meant PSU not CPU :ange:

you always assume for max tdp.

this is the card I used to own.

http://www.legitreviews.com/xfx-radeon-hd-7870-2gb-gddr5-video-card-review_1967/11

uses 280W (system) at load before any OC. I know mine was pulling close to 200W (GPU only) when I had it clocked up right. had two of them for a while in cfx and system power draw with an 8350 OC'd and 16gb ram was quite high. just sayin.

for cpu's Id look into a 6350 or 8320. you don't need more ram just a little more cpu would help

Sorry, meant PSU not CPU.

Because I am on a budget at the moment and it is enough for my gaming needs. Also it is a big upgrade from what I have currently (R7 240)

I buy a lot of old hardware. the 7870 is old but not out of date. still gets all new driver updates and performs on par with a rx 460 or 1050
