Can 1440p 144hz monitors run at 720p 240hz?

I wanna play e sports at a lower resolution to get a higher framerate. But when playing casual games play at 1440p

No, you may indeed lower their res. but you can't increase the total Hz unless you overclock them, and doubling the number of Hz would probably fry the monitor, so i wouldn't recommend that.

If i got right, you just want to change the settings for some games. That you can do inside the game's own settings, lower there the res. and you will achieve higher FPS in that game, still the max Hz of the monitor will stay the same.

No. A 240hz monitor can run at 240hz at maximum no matter what resolution you pick.

I know that lowering settings will help but I like to play source and older games at the max amount of fps possible. The combination of lower settings and resolution allows me to get the most fps. I wasn't sure if you could half the resolution but push out double the refresh rate.
