windows 10 update 1709 (creators update) deletes all documents ect

Lucky I had a backup but when you install the update it deletes all desktop folders uninstalls all programs from desktop and it deletes all user folders and files how to stop this>?

No, it doesn't do this. Obviously you didn't update properly.

As ex_bubblehead said, no it doesn't. You must of selected the wrong option when updating windows. In the upgrade assistant, you can choose if you want to upgrade to creators update with everything intact or just with the bare OS.

Yeah, mine upgraded in place and was exactly the same as it was before. I'm not even sure how you get to the option where it does a fresh install of the newer version of Windows.

Be sure to check whether it really did wipe your data (in which case a large chunk of your HDD should have become free) or whether it just transferred you into a new user account with similar name but different filepath.

Go to C:\Users and see if your old profile is still accessible and has all the data and if you are in a new profile
