Samsung monitor's HDMI-input won't accept digital-to-analog TV converter box - how to fix?

I have a Samsung S23A700D 23" monitor that has an HDMI input. The HDMI input works fine when I use the HDMI-out on an Nvidia video card using an HDMI cable so I know it's working correctly. However, when I use a ViewTV Digital-to-analog converter TV box (Model #: AT-163) that has HDMI-out on the Samsung and select the HDMI input on the monitor, I get that annoying "Not Optimum Mode, Recommended Mode 1920X1080 60HZ, HDMI" floating box error. There's no option in the Samsung's Control Menu to change HDMI settings to this "Optimum Mode" so I don't know what to do.

Are digital-to-analog TV converter boxes for the receiving of OTA HD TV signals only designed for TVs and not monitors? I'm confused.

Unfortunately, the DTA box settings are almost all menu-based, accessed only by the remote control and using an on-screen display. Since I can't get my monitor to see that setup menu, I'm SOOL.
